R said her first word this week (on Thursday): "Night night!"
We celebrated Passover last night with our friends, the Murdochs.

It's a little chaotic with kids, but I always enjoy reading through the Passover story. The girls watched the Disney's "The Prince of Egypt" and found it rather scary. Both of them cried when the Egyptians started killing Hebrew babies.
The story of the Exodus is pretty brutal. It's a common story throughout history - a story of a marginalized people at the hands of a privileged few that fear the marginalized will overcome them. It's so common that the nation I live in is guilty of it even now.
There were two things our Haggadah referred to that I had forgotten about:
- The Hebrews were instructed to use a hyssop branch to apply the lamb's blood to the doorpost (Ex 12:22). The hyssop branch was also used to give Christ sour wine (Jn 19:29).
- "Gethsemane" is derived from two Hebrew words: gat, which means "a place for pressing oil (or wine)" and shemanim, which means "oils." A lot of Christians find significance in this in that the Messiah was crushed by the weight of our sins during his prayers in the garden.
We took some pictures of the girls in the strawberry patch this evening. They are really starting to come in!
